As I am saying goodbye to my beloved Solara, I am remembering what it was like to live behind enemy lines: We lived in West Linn, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, until December 2020. That is a Blue Metro Area in a Blue State. Beginning in the 1990s only reckless Oregonians dared to put any type of “conservative” or GOP bumper sticker on their cars. If the bumper sticker was spotted by a Democrat bully, the car would be keyed, windows shattered or worse. Our neighbor gave us a very small “Veterans for Bush” sticker during the 2004 election. We dared to put it on the back window of my husband’s brand new 2004 Toyota 4Runner. NOT TOO BRIGHT, BUT WE THOUGHT WE LIVED IN FREE-SPEECH AMERICA. A few days later we caught a young man trying to remove the sticker while it was parked in our driveway. We thanked him for not breaking the window. Seriously.
WHY DOES DIANE HAVE SIX BUMPER STICKERS?
We call ourselves riot refugees. When the BLM/Antifa domestic terrorists arrived just two blocks from our home in July 2020, the West Linn City Council welcomed them and told the police to stand down. THAT was the last straw for us. [The second to the last straw was using our tax dollars to abuse little kids.]
We moved to our beach house on the Washington Coast, at the mouth of the Columbia River. Yes, Washington State is in the vice grip of Democrat/Progressive/Marxist tyrants; BUT, on our little peninsula the Democrats/Liberals have not yet turned into vandals & thugs. They have not keyed my little red buggy. After years of not being allowed to express myself with bumper stickers, I went a little nuts. With the Biden Regime working overtime to destroy the Bill of Rights and push ever more Americans into poverty, I could not stay silent. When I came across a bumper sticker that told the truth, I put it on my car. What do you think?
I WANT YOUR “LIVING BEHIND ENEMY LINES” STORIES
Democrats/Liberals living in areas dominated by Republicans/Conservatives feel a lot more comfortable than vice versa. Conservatives have a “live & let live” attitude and don’t bully Liberals. Liberals have little respect for those holding different views and often feel free to bully & harass their Conservative co-workers, neighbors, etc. Conservatives jokingly call this “living behind enemy lines.”
I want to hear your stories about living behind enemy lines. How do your “left-wing” neighbors treat you? What do you do to protect your safety and your sanity? Do you pretend to be a Liberal in order to keep your job? Did your Democrat friends & colleagues call you names and abandon you when Trump won? Has someone called the police because your house flies an American flag? Do you have a “Karen” for a neighbor? I want to hear your stories of survival: amusing stories, scary stories, disgusting stories, anything you want to tell me.
Please send your story directly to me at Diane@PeninsulaPatriots.com. This is a ProtonMail address which is encrypted, secure from the thought police. I will protect your privacy: I just need your first name, the town’s name, the state’s name and your story of living behind enemy lines.
This article reminded me of the British motor show Top Gear's US special (from 2008), where the three presenters travel across the deep south in used cars. In one of the challenges they are painting "controversial" slogans on each others cars, pro-homosexual, pro-Clinton and anti-patriotic. They have to abandon the joke when they are pelted with stones by locals (presumably conservatives) and seem to be fearinig for their lives.
Of course, it is a TV show, but at least a TV show based in reality. The point here being that there is no natural law stating that only liberals are capable of harassment. The fact that conservatives feel more exposed than liberals might be more due to demographics than actual viciousness. Liberal strongholds are predominantly urban with high population densities forcing people of different persuasions to rub up against each other while conservative strongholds are predominantly rural where you are simply not as bothered by your neighbours.

Moved from Chinook to Klipsan Beach and had no issues with anything or anyone since that time. I fly the flag 24/7 with a light on it at night, and have been thinking of adding a second flag on my small shed next to the garage that is MAGA for Trump 2024. I doubt seriously if anyone cares, the vast majority of my neighbors are week-enders and are only here a couple of times a month. They are older, so I assume they are more on the conservative side than liberals. If anything comes of my experiment, I will let you know. Edie
