Pretending she came from “the hood,” Democrat Janelle Bynum, age 49, made her political chops by defunding & demoralizing law enforcement and promoting criminals in Oregon these last six years. During her campaign she downplayed her “social justice successes,” by pretending she is a “law & order” candidate. Indeed, her campaign website listed seven issues as her top priorities, excluding her major “successes.” Like Kamala Harris, she ran from her anti-law & order and pro-crime past in order to get elected. When I say “past,” I am talking about March 10, 2024 when Oregon’s 2024 legislative session ended.
SETTING THE STAGE FOR 2020 RIOTS
Bynum was co-chair of a Oregon Special Legislative Committee, the Joint Committee on Transparent Policing and Use of Force Reform (2019-2020). In that role, she presided over reforms intended to change the nature of policing in Oregon. In the House of Representatives since January 2017, she is widely recognized for her tireless efforts to pass landmark legislation on “Police Accountability,” all the while portraying herself and her family as victims of racism.
During her six years in the Oregon State House Bynum sponsored and promoted many bills to handcuff police, thus setting the stage for the 2020 BLM/Antifa thugs to run wild for five months, terrorizing residents in Oregon’s biggest cities. Here are just a few of her anti-police, anti-public safety bills:
A) Prohibiting police from using chemical agents in crowd control;
B) Cancelling police officers’ authority to declare an unlawful assembly;
C) Limiting when police can arrest someone for interfering with a law enforcement officer;
D) Restricting when police can release booking photos and how they can be used publicly; and
E) Establishing a database to track police officers who have been disciplined.
In addition, Bynum promoted legislation that made it easier for more felons to expunge their criminal records.
Allow me to point out for my subscribers that I lived in the same county as Bynum, Clackamas County, which borders Portland, for 32 years. During that time I saw, up close and personal, deterioration of public safety in and around Portland as the far, far Left took over ever more decision-making. My husband and I escaped after Democrats sent their racist thugs to our quiet, upscale burb.
"DON’T YOU DARE CALL POLICE, WHITEY” BILL
During the 2018 legislative session, Bynum introduced House Bill 3216 creating the “racist summoning” law. The law passed, and now black citizens can sue if a white person mistakenly calls the police on them, however honest the mistake is. If Oregon’s white residents call the police on a black person and it turns out he/she was not breaking the law, they might have to pay “reparations” for the “trauma” they caused that black person.
According to Bynum, the black person’s life is endangered by police; therefore, the (white) caller should have to pay $250 for such “endangerment.” Of course, THAT will increase crime because ever more people with pale skin will ignore suspicious behavior. And ever more bad guys with darker skin will learn that witnesses will ignore them long enough to allow them to commit the crime and get away.
It’s the race baiters and the Leftists in the Oregon Legislature who threaten our freedoms and have made Oregon and its largest city, Portland, more dangerous, year by year, decade by decade.
KILLING 1ST AMENDMENT RIGHTS OF POLICE
Bynum sponsored legislation that interfered with police officers’ speech within their private lives. Without defining it, the legislation installed and implemented “anti-racist values” for law enforcement, adding social media policies and requiring local agencies to set standards for speech and expression by officers both in and outside the course of their employment.
In 2022, a police monitoring group completed a study of the Portland Police Bureau. An overwhelming majority of officers in the survey, 83.46 percent, said they would never stop a person of color in situations where they might stop a white person. Considering that police stops for minor violations are one way officers find illegal weapons, is it worth the trade off to lower the number of encounters between police and possible offenders? Police in Oregon can no longer stop people from doing serious harm.
It comes as no surprise that Bynum’s opponent, Congresswoman Lori Chavez-Deremer who is representing Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District, has been endorsed by more than 50 public safety officials. No doubt, they fear Bynum will take her anti-police, pro-criminals ideas to the DC Swamp.*
BYNUM CLAIMS A “WORKING CLASS” CHILDHOOD
Like so many race baiters, they contort their own personal histories. Kamala Harris keeps claiming “I was raised middle class,” when she actually spent her teen years in a wealthy neighborhood in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and attended expensive private middle and high schools there.
In her congressional campaign, Bynum referred to her “working-class” upbringing. The truth is that Bynum’s childhood was spent in a solid upper middle class neighborhood just outside Washington, DC, attending a private boarding school. Both her parents were well-educated, well-paid teachers. She graduated from Florida A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and from the University of Michigan with an MBA. Bynum did not work her way through college as so many working class and middle class students, of all races, do.
Bynum makes a very prosperous living as owner (along with her husband Mark) of the four McDonald’s franchises they inherited from his parents. Their four children attend private schools.
As Oregon’s first black Congressionperson, what would Bynum do to bring more peace and less violence to the black community? Like Harris, Bynum refused to answer that question.
Democrats focus too much on race and gender, but don't care about policy or merit. This is exactly what is going on in the campaign as it pertains to Kamala Harris.
It astounds and nauseates me every time I hear a Democrat claim to be the party of "unity", when in fact its entire platform is built on silo-ing the votes of Americans by race. There’s nothing crazy about the Democrats’ agenda, though. Every Democrat policy is designed to build the party’s voting coalition.
