Portlanders Vote Out Soros-Funded District Attorney
Is This A Sign Sanity Is Returning?
The man behind Portland’s crime wave, District Attorney Mike Schmidt, was defeated 54% to 46% on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that means that over 77,000 voters are still cheering on the crime, the Leftist rioting, the drug trafficking, et al, which is fouling their own nest. Schmidt, who had literally no prosecutorial experience, was backed by Soros-linked PACs in both 2020 & 2024 and became famous these last four years for letting criminals go free. He was booted out by a “tough-on-crime” candidate, Nathan Vasquez, who works in his Multnomah County District Attorney office.
Two men paying attention may be George & Alex Soros, who poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into Schmidt’s campaign through America-Last nonprofits to help him destroy another major city. Repudiating Schmidt is repudiating the dangerous political agenda Soros promotes that has killed and harmed so many across the nation.
PORTLANDERS ARE 90% DEMOCRATS: MOSTLY BRAINDEAD
As half the hotel rooms in downtown Portland go wanting for tourists, with office space at the lowest occupancy rate in the history of Portland, the city I worked in and/or lived in most of my adult life is dying for want of common-sense leadership. But, on Tuesday the voters in the county, Multnomah County,^ had a chance to “throw the bum out,” and they did! It is almost a miracle! I was shocked!
Mike Schmidt, the Social Justice prosecutor who has done so much to decrease law and order in Portland, won in a landslide election in August 2020, winning over 76% of the vote while campaigning as a progressive. THAT was in the middle of the rioting. Apparently, voters wanted the burning, looting & murdering to continue. Well, they got what they wanted: Nightly rioting continued until October.
During his four years Schmidt managed to increase homicides to an all-time high. Perhaps that is because he decriminalized BLM & Antifa rioting and sat by while drug addicts overdosed themselves in record numbers. My husband and I have not returned since we escaped in December 2020, but I hear rumors that Portland would not survive another four years under Schmidt’s love of criminals and hatred of police. Both the county and the city have been losing residents and businesses these last four years. This means the Marxist elected officials and Portland’s “deep state” are losing the taxes they grift off of and gain their power from.
Nathan Vasquez promises to prosecute crimes and restore the office’s relationship with police, which was broken by Schmidt’s open hatred of police.
ARE “TOLERANT” PROGRESSIVES BECOMING INTOLERANT?
Apparently, Vasquez’s law-and-order message to Portland voters resonated, even for the Marxist Left who have increasingly taken over the city, county and many suburbs. Apparently, some residents have finally had enough of crime and hatred after cheering on five months of BLM/Antifa rioting in 2020.
The effects of that period of collective insanity can still be seen today. The population has declined for the first time in its history as the law-abiding flee. From 2020 to 2022, Portland lost around 18,200 residents, or 2.8% of its population. Indeed, the entire county lost residents. The decline has continued each year since, according to US Census Bureau data.
The “City of Roses” is a shell of itself, particularly in downtown, where businesses fled after dealing with the triple insanity of the two-year pandemic lockdown (March 2020 to April 2022), five months of nightly rioting in 2020 and violent homeless encampments.
SCHMIDT HUGGED RIOTERS, INSTEAD OF PROSECUTING
The consequences of Schmidt’s love of criminals has been devastating. Schmidt took power in August 2020, during the height of the Black Lives Matter-Antifa riots. His office immediately announced that most riot-related offenses were decriminalized:
Interfering with an officer? No problem. Felony rioting? No problem. Disorderly conduct? No longer a crime. Criminal trespass and harassment? All decriminalized.
During his 2020 inauguration speech, Schmidt repeatedly chanted in support of Black Lives Matter. This America-Last jackass even claimed that “the foundations of this country were also built on protests that destroyed property, and sometimes it’s necessary to get people’s attention.”
GETTING ATTENTION FROM TERRORISTS
Schmidt’s policies got the attention of Antifa. Antifa’s violence became entrenched and more extreme as rioters felt emboldened to commit crimes with impunity. For more than 120 nights straight in 2020, Antifa smashed up businesses and set fires to buildings & property, terrorizing the law-abiding. Responding police were assaulted and beaten by coordinated riot brigades armed with knives, clubs and projectile weapons.
Those who were arrested were quickly released without bail to return to rioting, sometimes within the same day. One serial Antifa riot arrestee had been arrested at least seven times, having her charges dropped by Schmidt’s office every time. Nonfatal shootings also more than tripled during this time in Portland.
One BLM/Antifa thug with a criminal record was allowed to roam around downtown Portland for weeks, armed, until he shot & killed an unarmed pedestrian who was wearing a MAGA hat. Schmidt was so unconcerned about this “stalk & kill” murder that he waited six days to issue an arrest warrant, despite the fact that police and the DA’s office knew where he lived.
SCHMIDT RELEASED FELONS, BUSINESSES FLEE
Some businesses cheered on the rioting, but other businesses have fled Portland since 2020, often citing theft and public safety as the reasons. Big brands REI, Walmart, Starbucks, Target, Nike and Cracker Barrel are among those who have downsized or closed all of their Portland locations, joining the dozens of local businesses who shut down earlier.
The results of Schmidt’s love of criminals will linger beyond his time in office. In 2021, Schmidt received a list of incarcerated felony inmates to vet before they were offered clemency by then-Governor Kate Brown. Schmidt’s district attorney’s office did not object or raise concern on any of the 14 felony convicts. One of the men whose sentence was then commutated by Brown, with the blessing from Schmidt, is the person of interest in the serial killing of at least three Portland women. A secret grand jury is expected to hear the serial murder case next week.
Voters in Multnomah County had an opportunity to throw THIS bum out, and they did! For the first time in decades, I am proud of Multnomah County voters.
Start a civil suit and just harass the prick!
