C’mon, Diane! Portland and Multnomah County have never been better. There are good NGO and government jobs here, especially in the anti-capitalist sector, except healthcare. We have really great food carts here, too, which are now the backbone of our continuing economic vitalization strategy. Plus, if you’re a BIPOC, you don’t have to worry anymore about harassment from the racist, sexist, bigoted white people who used to live and pay taxes here. And, with our Sanctuary State status, we’re a refuge against the federal government’s illegal, fascist-dictator takeover of the executive branch by unelected officials who unconstitutionally exhale carbon dioxide in a nefarious conspiracy to kill you, the earth, and our fertilization rate. Portland and Multnomah County is the earth’s combined, last, great, utopian hope for all trans-human-gender-kind. Make no mistake about it: just because people don’t want to live here does’t mean our community isn’t thriving! We are Portland Strong!

Well, I guess it could be construed as sarcasm , but the WOKE people of Oregon are actually misguided enough to write that sort of diatribe. I don’t know Brett but his reply to Edie didn’t make it any clearer. In any case I enthusiastically agree with your article .

Democrats in Oregon know Portland and burbs are dying and don't care because THEY ARE STICKING TO THEIR PRINCIPLES!!!!! We escaped there in 2020.

Jeff, to be clear, I usually fail at successfully achieving this level of sarcasm. The Portlander mindset I have described is exactly why Portland (and Oregon) is doomed to continue its diabolical disintegration until the marxists are deposed.

Off the top of my head, I know 20+ families who have escaped Portland and burbs since 2020 riots. School buildings are half empty.

Diane, I know many significant businesses that have abandoned Portland and Multnomah County, mostly to Washington and to Clackamas County, Lake Oswego way. With Portland’s new, marxist City Council, we are firmly cemented in our doom for generations to come.

We built our dream house in West Linn in 1988 and expected to die there. WL City Council and school board were taken over by BLM thugs and those promoting castration of kids. When BLM riots arrived in 2020, police were told to stand down. THAT was the last straw for us.

PS I would add that sarcasm is my way of coping with my enslaved existence within the state and local dystopia of my former homeland, where I will stay and fight the good fight at least until my 92 yr old father is no longer a breathing taxable-unit, though he may long still find himself on the voter rolls.

Nah, Brett is being sarcastic. I lived in Portland for one year, having moved from rural NW PA. The two northwest's were diametrically opposites. This was in 1978.

When we got to downtown Portland we soon realized you had to watch where you were stepping when you got back to your car. The homeless used the space between cars as a personal bathroom. Stopping at a red light resulting another homeless smearing your windshield in an effort to garner money for doing so. And they became angry if you didn't pay.

It was an everyday occurrence to smell marijuana in the malls, grocery stores or in parking lots.

I cannot imagine the city now. Democrats turn every city they touch to 💩.

Sadly the voters in OR, WA, CA will never realize the folly of voting for democrats. They will always believe it's orange man bad's fault.

Yep! We were forced to give up the dream home we built in West Linn. Not only were the police told to allow BLM thugs to own the streets, too many of our relatively new neighbors were haters, spewing out their anti-America, anti-US Constitution, anti-Christian BS. It is hard to live around constant hatred.

Yesterday, I was shocked to learn that two teachers from Kentucky are moving to Astoria, Oregon to teach in a newly established Christian school. They are going to suffer from HORRIBLE culture shock. Too many Conservatives hide in the closet for fear of losing their jobs, or worse. Astoria is expecting 300-400 haters blocking downtown traffic at noon tomorrow. It is "Hands Offs" Day of Terrorism.

I escaped with my family in 2004, when it was just starting to really fall apart. My parents and a few friends still live there. That’s all that I miss of Portland. I have zero regrets over leaving and zero desire to ever return.

Still have family there. West Linn. They are part of the problem. Used to visit them each year from across the country but no more since the early 2,000s. All one can do is shake one’s head at what a shame it all is that the Democrats destroyed a once-gorgeous city. The politicians and residents who remain there are delusional and will never change. There is unfortunately, no hope for that city and its suburbs. Shame on you progressive liberal Dems, my family included.

My wife grew up in Hood River and shopped in Portland for Christmas. We continued the tradition with her family after we were married for many years. As it got worse we quit going all together. I remember a restaurant in Chinatown called Fong Chong that was very large and very busy. We tried to go there a few years later and it was closed and Chinatown was a ghost town. Very sad. We rarely go back but when we do it is just passing through to visit the Portland Nursery.

In 1988 we built our dream house in West Linn and expected to live there the rest of our lives. THEN, the riots came, funded by and cheered on by Democrats who run Oregon and run Portland. ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!! We have never returned and never will. Indeed, almost everyone we know have escaped, too.
