One of my subscribers told me that his two grandsons and their mother spent a week on the West Coast, coming home to declare that Portland is a “shithole.” I had to have their story.
The Democrats are ENABLING these cities to become shitholes. Free needles, no drug enforcement, allowing homeless to camp everywhere and shit in the street, etc.
They must DESTROY a city/country before they can impose Socialism. No prosperous country accepts socialism until conditions are so bad that people are desperate.
Portland's decline is like a snowball: it goes faster & faster as time goes on because politicians are doubling down on the policies that started the decline. I shared your comment on Notes. Thank you!!!
Unfortunately! Just on Wednesday I learned that drug cartels, who invaded the Indian Reservations under the Biden Regime, are buying up various businesses in South Dakota in order to launder their drug money. Normal Americans cannot hate Democrats enough.
Leave it to Woke Democrats: import broken-world governance, excuse disorder, decriminalize dysfunction, defund consequences, empower the homeless-industrial complex, and then act surprised when the city starts looking like the places people flee. This is not about ordinary immigrants or poor people. It is about values, law, order, sanitation, policing, addiction policy, and whether civilization has the guts to defend itself. Portland still has food, scenery, architecture, and neighborhoods worth saving. But normal visitors are not blind. They see the needles, tents, filth, and public madness. Restore order or watch the city become a warning label.

I visited Portland in the 90s and loved it so much I wanted to move there. I remember thinking the Asian Garden was the coolest thing. The downtown area was amazing, mainly because it was so clean and people were wandering around going to shops and restaurants at 9:00 at night. I’m from Atlanta and, at the time, no one stayed in Atlanta after 5:00. I never did move to Portland but am so angry the city has come to this. It’s unfathomable that this is what people want.
Geez! Really? More murders? It is interesting that you mention mid-80s. That is when we decided to move from the Hollywood District of Portland to West Linn. We had three minor incidents within about a year or so: 1) Man was following me from small local market - I was walking; 2) The police retrieved a crazy-looking dude from out garage; and 3) While we slept, someone came into our home, prowled around our basement, our living room, bedrooms, stole stuff and left. To this day we are glad they did not wake up our old, deaf dog who would have barked.
Zero sympathy: the folks in Portland are getting exactly what they voted for, and they must like it because they keep voting for more of it. Few of us, I think, grasp how many of the general population are drug addicts. I did some thumbnail calculations for my own local hellhole: "Understanding Minneapolis Voters"

I feel genuine sadness about the loss of a once great city. I used to love living in Portland. Being “Weird” was fun, but once Portland went Woke it was the beginning of the end. I don’t want my children growing up around radical anarchists, mentally ill people who are confused about their gender or even the fact everyone is so tolerable of ridiculous behavior like dressing up as an animal. No thanks.
I, too, am sad. The last GOP governor left office in January 1987. THAT was the beginning of the decline of Oregon. It was the hate of our neighbors and former friends who pushed us out of Oregon. I shared your comment on Substack Notes. Thank you!
Democrats are Marxists. We can't even call them a legitimate political party anymore. They're implementing the four-point subversion plan described by Yuri Bezmenov. They just don't realize that they're also engineering their own destruction.
Unfortunately, The Left took over our education system, currently producing the third generation of poorly educated, indoctrinated Americans who hate America.

It's all part of the Democrat Socialism Plan.

I'd say that Democrats are doing far more that just "enabling" our destruction; together with our foreign enemies, they are engineering it. READ: "Democrats and the Cartels": https://daveziffer.substack.com/p/democrats-and-the-cartels

Yup. The Homeless Industrial Complex is thriving on the left coast.
Portland: Paradise lost, thanks to Democrats.
The title of this post is perfect for Portland. Portland is definitely a palace of poop. 💩

Tricia: The crazies vote for this, the sane escape. I shared your comment on Substack's Notes. Thank you! Diane
we thought Portland was nice in the last ‘70’s and early ‘80’s but we left around ‘83-’84 when they beat out Miami in homicides…

Yeah, Missoula Montana is headed down the same road.

Behind Enemy Lines. Exactly how I feel.
I have lived in Oregon most of my adult lives. Democrats started abusing Republicans in the 1990s and it has only gotten worse. Where do you live.
