As responsible people move from these s..t hole cities, the balance of power grows greater for the irresponsible losers. So this is a rabid dog chasing its tail. The destruction of the city is assured and quickened.

Like your experience in West Linn, Diane, we built our home in LO 45 years ago, and then watched our formerly conservative community Californicated and Portland turned into a Third World cesspool. We now live in a more rural area of Washington east of Seattle, sheltered from the criminal/drug abuse storm, but not the leftist politics that’s also ruining this state. We pray voters will come to their senses, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

John: I was born & raised in East Wenatchee. How close are you to the Wenatchee Valley? I understand, these last 15 years or so, a lot of Seattle area retirees have moved into the Valley. Since those who voted FOR the cesspool often vote the same way after they move, I wonder if the Valley is turning Blue. My last trip there was in 2015 when my aunt passed away. Diane

I’m in Mirrormont, a few miles southeast of Issaquah, living with my daughter and her husband. We have conservative neighbors, which is a blessing.

John: When we decided to give up on West Linn & Portland we moved to our beach house on the Long Beach Peninsula, at the mouth of the Columbia River. We have owned our beach house on 20 acres since the mid 90s so we knew the neighbors. We are on a half mile dead end easement road of 7 houses. Only one is a flaming Liberal. The rest are very conservative. Indeed, when the Liberal discovered that all the neighbors except her & one other are members of the local John Birch Society she literally had a temper tantrum in public. At the same time she learned that I am a founding member (founded 11/2020) and has refused to talk to me ever since. Ha! There are many Liberals on the peninsula but they are not as mean & nasty as those in Portland/West Linn. BTW, my hubby, Michael graduated from LO Hi in 1964. Diane

I came to the US in 1962 from South Africa. Needed to spend five consecutive years in the US to retain my American citizenship. My father was from the Buffalo, NY area. None of the newspapers (I had been a bureau chief for The Star newspaper in Johannesburg for a few years) would hire me because I was of draft age. Joined the US Army, got married and our kids grew up in LO. Youngest graduated from Lakeridge and then U of O, but survived and is a staunch conservative, as are all my family. What’s happened to our great country in the past 20 years scares the hell out of me. I have strong memories of the Soviet Union and the East German Stasi. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine we would see an abusive Justice Department and FBI state police force used to imprison Americans for objecting to tyrannical government corruption and abuse. Obama’s abuse of the IRS kicked off his fundamental transformation of America that Joe Biden has accelerated to aid the coverup of his and Obama’s corruption. I worry that not enough people see this socialist transformation that’s being openly supported by the judiciary. If the Democrats successfully rig the 2024 election, I believe it will spark another hot civil war. That the corporate national media supports the socialist Democrats’ tyranny, and Big Tech oligarchs censor opposition voices, is frightening. It’s incredible that our country has political prisoners locked away for up to 22 years. Growing up in South Africa, America was our beacon of freedom and hope. That millions of illegals are now invading our borders tells us how much worse life is in other countries. Unfortunately, it’s also an omen of the horror that our country will be facing if the Marxist Democrats and their corrupt, unaccountable government bureaucrats extend their political grip by abandoning the Constitution in favor of their socialist dictatorship. And we will have no better place to escape to for the freedom and liberty we once relished in our beloved America.

Oh, John, you came to the beacon of freedom only to live long enough to see it turned into a surveillance state. As a LEGAL immigrant you have every right to be pissed that Biden opened the door wide open. Legal or illegal, America cannot absorb the 9 million illegals that have arrived in less than three years. Some communities are collapsing. American school kids are being cheated big time. Some border downs have seen their health care systems collapse because the average illegal has significant health problems, compared to the average American. Diane

At birth, my parents registered my brother and I as American citizens. We had to register for the US draft at 18 at the US Consulate in Johannesburg. Couldn’t vote in any South African elections because we weren’t SA citizens. American born citizens take for granted the protections of our Constitution, Bill of Rights and Rule of Law. Little do they realize the freedom and liberties they are losing each day as an unaccountable bureaucracy gnaws away at our rights. Our schools have become leftist indoctrination centers dumbing down our students instead of uplifting them with America’s exceptionalism and history, which is now left to parents. I fear that my grandchildren will suffer the fate of socialism’s latest victim, Venezuela. The 2024 election will make or break America.

I often tell people here in Texas about the “Seattle Freeze.” That’s when you’re walking down the sidewalk in or near Seattle and you make eye contact, say hello, open and hold a door for someone, and they walk right by you, don’t look at you, don’t respond. In fact, I’ve had people walk several feet into the street to avoid me. Maybe because I’m a white masculine male from Eastern Washington (which is the much more “normal” part of the state).

Good article Diane. Looking forward to more of these stories!

Thank you, Steve!!! I am working on two other "living behind enemy lines" articles right now. Note THIS one was in the resident's words, not mine. She wrote to me after reading other articles.

It’s all good. Love the premise of true witness accounts. There will be a shift in power, there HAS to be. People are sick of this.
