Bill Of Rights Is Dying Before Our Eyes

The concept of legal ownership of property is being, inch by inch, “reimagined” by Marxist Extremists both inside and outside the federal government, in (some) state governments and in (some) city/county governments. With mobs owning the streets in most Democrat-run major cities, the reimagining can be seen daily. The police will not arrest and the prosecutor will not prosecute if the property stolen from a store is less than a certain dollar amount, which varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

In many Democrat-ruined cities you can park your dilapidated travel trailer, tent and/or shopping cart in a homeowners’ front, back or side yard, and the police will not trespass you off. Indeed, in some major cities squatters can move into your home while you are on vacation or at work, and you cannot get them out without a lengthy & expensive legal process, as this Chicago woman learned. The police, the DA and the courts will do nothing to protect your property rights.

Does the person who paid for the store’s merchandise really own the items if anyone can walk off with them with no criminal consequences? Can the homeowner truly claim to own his home & the real estate it is built on when any stranger can move in or on, and the police, the DA & the court tells the trespasser he can remain there FOR MONTHS, perhaps for years?

COVID MANDATES WERE A FORM OF PROPERTY CONFISCATION

Homeowners, commercial property owners and others have long accepted the notion of zoning. Ostensibly, zoning is necessary to maintain a certain quality of life. For example, what city or suburban homeowner wants a pig farm next door? In major cities the zoning laws can be quite onerous and nonsensical. With the arrival of the man-made, taxpayer-paid Covid virus, for example, elected officials & bureaucrats with tyrannical tendencies threw the Bill of Rights into the fire. It was a perfect excuse to violate all our freedoms within the First Amendment. But, Freedom of Assembly, also known as the right to associate with whomever you choose, was perhaps the most abused, followed by Freedom of Religion.

Just before Thanksgiving 2020, the Marxist governor of Oregon mandated the following: “Limiting social get togethers, whether indoors or out, to no more than six people from two households. Limiting worship services to 25 people when indoors and 50 people when outdoors.” With one stroke of her red pen, she violated Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Assembly. Presumably, this unconstitutional mandate was enforced evenly, regardless the type of events held in one’s home, and regardless the type of religious ceremonies. The City of Beverly Hills, California, however, is not applying their so-called zoning code equally.

CITY OF BEVERLY HILLS STAKED OUT RABBI’S HOME

Rabbi Levi Illulian bought his modest home in Beverly Hills, outside of Los Angeles, last October. He originally started celebrating Jewish dinners at his home “as a means of supporting an aging, home-ridden Holocaust survivor,” according to his lawyer. He strives to keep his gatherings intimate and only invites people into his home as guests, not the general public. He even instructs guests to be courteous to others in the community. On days when people drive to his home, he tells them to park further away in order to avoid inconveniencing the neighbors.

Some neighbors complained about “parking, noise, and trash filling up,” so the city’s Code Enforcement Attorney sent the Rabbi a “Notice of Violation” letter prohibiting all religious activity with non-residents at his property. However, the city allows other social gatherings of similar size in the same neighborhood. While neighbors can invite their friends & relatives into their homes for a card game, for a dinner party or for a keg party, the city singled out Rabbi Levi for inviting friends & family to pray or celebrate Shabbat. The letter also threatened Rabbi Levi with civil and criminal proceedings.

Originally, the city conducted an investigation and concluded the neighbor’s complaints were unfounded and closed its case. But that hiatus was short-lived. They reopened the investigation and are once again targeted Rabbi Levi, all because a “Karen” apparently don’t want him living out his faith. Are these neighbors anti-Semitic? Are they stepping up the harassment because Israel is now defending itself against Hamas?

Behaving like the FBI looking for terrorists, city officials then engaged in multiple stakeouts of the rabbi’s home over many hours, even using a drone to survey every detail of the small property. They then tallied the number of individuals and cars coming & going from the residence, and photographed guests. Will his guests wind up on a government list for future persecution? Is this just another method to “divide & conquer,” keeping Americans away from each other in order to weaken their spirit?

One’s home is the most sacred and protected space for the free exercise of religion. If you cannot worship freely in your home, where can you worship?
