The amount of damage they have allowed, condoned, and done, I certainly hope they are all going out of style. Marxism has never been a thing in my book.
Many years ago, like in the 1990’s I used to travel from S.F. to Seattle on business. I often wondered to myself, which city will reach the bottom first and then which will go even deeper. It was always a tight race but I think Seattle may have finally won (or lost). Just from things I hear. I haven’t been back to Seattle since then. It’s sad in both cases.
Portland was somewhere I also worked, I thought it was better than Seattle but again this was 30 years ago. I lived a year in LA during the eighties and when I travelled to Seattle ten years later the freeways reminded me of So. Cal, but with one difference. LA drivers were the best ever of any place I’ve lived even the Bay Area. The LA traffic was still a cluster —— and it took forever to get anywhere but I think people were so used to it they just chilled and accepted it with a smile, very polite drivers. Seattle drivers were just stupid, obnoxious and slow, probably still are, fortunately I have not been back there or to Portland in 25 years. From your article: "Portland residents are so tangled in their “progressive identity” that they are not capable of recognizing “cause & effect.” Portland is truly a lost cause". Hold off final judgement until we see how things shake out here in Ca. The Bay Airheads, at least some of them seem to be waking up, Soros DA’s are getting recalled, Oaklands corrupt Mayor was recalled and Gavin seems to be finally over politically, etc. I’m taking a wait and see approach, but if this place really does change, who knows there might be hope for Portland.
It broke our hearts to give up the dream house we built in West Linn in 1988; however, I watched two friends attacked by BLM thugs in 2020, near our home. Police were told to stand down, do nothing.THAT was the end for us. We paid the highest property taxes in Oregon AND HAD NO POLICE PROTECTION. It wasn't bad enough that racist, violent thugs were allowed to run wild, but law abiding Conservatives were being targeted by their delusional neighbors for constant harassment. We could no longer live around all that hate. There is NO HOPE for Portland for the next 30-40 years. I tell young people: start your lives in any state except OR, WA, CA.
The root word of Democrat is Demon...

As my husband & I spent 44 years in and around Portland, we measured its decline against that of San Francisco. We stayed away from Seattle, just 150 miles north because of the HORRIBLE traffic. Driving to Vancouver BC was a nightmare. I wrote about the decline here: https://dianelgruber.substack.com/p/portland-death-of-a-city?utm_source=publication-search
