In retrospect, Jimmy Carter was a naive fool.

Allow me to rephrase. Carter disliked people who valued their freedom. I left Taiwan several years before he cut off diplomatic relations with Taiwan so that China could eventually invade. On his deathbed he was probably wondering why China hadn't taken over Taiwan yet. He set the stage.

I think he was a professing Christian who completely misunderstood God and the role of rulers in restraining evil.

Wow, I had forgot that Democrat Jimmy Peanuts had done that in 1979. Wasn't that the same time that he had bailed out on Iran leaving captive American citizens in the hands of a budding future Muslim Spring? That was concurrent with his CIA under GHW Bush was establishing the funding channels for Al-Quaeda and Bil Laden through the Safari Club operating out of Kenya. Still waters run deep and treacherous. Little wonder why W was not surprised on 911.

Yep! As I recall Ole Jimmy began the process of turning Iran over to the Islamist in early 1979. That November, of course, is when our embassy was invaded and Americans were held hostage until the DAY AFTER REAGAN WAS SWORN INTO OFFICE. Our enemies can always read strength AND weakness in our presidents, can't they? And Ole Jimmy paved the way for China to take over Taiwan.

Diane,

You are right on key! I believe Carter just followed what he was told by the higherarchy; or was he attempting to make a decision and put a mark in his achievement diary, who knows? He didn’t appear to have much wherewithal about foreign policy.

I believe that American leaders have flushed our monetary and military strength, thus labeling the US a weak country on the decline. At this juncture, we are vulnerable and I believe an easy mark to be invaded or overthrown. We pray not.
