As Rush Limbaugh used to say, I watched “60 Minutes” (3X) so YOU wouldn’t have to.
This American watched CBS’s “60 Minutes” for 30-odd years, as impressive hosts and important guests came and went. It was the weekly go-to show for those who wanted to be kept abreast of all manner of happenings. THAT ended for me in September 2004 when the venerable Dan Rather was so desperate to prevent George W. Bush’s re-election that he centered his segment around a fake letter. As I recall, that letter was dated in 1972 and suggested Bush had shirked his duties as a national guard pilot during the Vietnam War.
It only took a day or two before people noticed that the letter’s font had been typed on a typewriter that did not exist in 1972. Ole Dan, who had long been known to lean Left in his reporting but had not yet been caught presenting fake news, resigned in disgrace.
The producers of “60 Minutes” didn’t change their ways, however. They doubled down again and again. They propped up Obama’s presidency and undermined Trump’s, for example. Leslie Stahl’s interview with President Trump a week before the 2020 election was extremely biased and, after Stahl repeatedly pushed misinformation and essentially called him a liar, Trump rightly cut the interview short.* [See Video Below] This Sunday, their main task was to prop up Joe Biden as midterm elections approach. They did their job well. It remains to be seen if this lovefest interview will help Democrat candidates in November.
ALL INTERVIEWS ARE TAPED AND EDITED BEFORE AIRING
Due to his advancing dementia Biden is not able to handle a live interview. That is why, after each teleprompter speech, he turns and walks away. His last sit-down interview, also taped & edited, was with NBC’s Lester Holt in February.
No doubt hoping to present Biden in the best light, “60 Minutes” chose to interview him on two different days and in two different locations. The Detroit segment was taped last Wednesday, and the Oval Office segment was taped on Thursday. Either Scott Pelley didn’t ask Joe any tough questions, or the answers to tough questions were “left on the cutting room floor.” We don’t know how many minutes were taped, but they aired about 15 minutes of Biden’s interviews. The other 10 minutes of this “60 Minutes” segment were filled with Pelley’s voiceovers.
Scott Pelley is an experienced interviewer with a low-key style. With a tone of reverence and awe for Biden that continued throughout this campaign ad, he began with “Summer was going so well for the president the White House threw a party last week.”
INFLATION? WHAT INFLATION?
When Pelley asked about inflation he allowed Biden to shrug it off: “Went up just an inch, hardly at all” “it has gone down for energy,” “this is a process, this is a process,” “I would tell the American people inflation will continue to decline,” and “their energy prices are going to be lower.”
No mention of the looming recession which is scheduled to hit Americans next year. No mention of the fact that his massive spending bills will increase inflation for years to come and eventually push us into a depression. No mention of the fact that lower-income Americans will struggle to heat their homes this winter.
Pelley: “Is the economy going to get worse before it gets better?” Biden: “No.” Since this was designed to promote Biden and his “successes” leading up to the midterms, Pelley didn’t bother to follow up that answer with FACTS.
SOME DEATHS MAKE BETTER POLITICS THAN OTHERS
Biden touted his recent passage of another assault weapons ban (he sponsored similar legislation that passed in 1994 - it did nothing to reduce gun deaths), implying it would have prevented the Uvalde school shooting. It would not have. Through clenched teeth he spoke of “the pain, the pain” of spending four hours with the 21 Uvalde families following the massacre. “So, so unnecessary, so wrong.”
Fentanyl deaths? Biden felt no pain for the FOUR HUNDRED families that marched outside the White House last week. He didn’t bother to walk outside to “feel their pain.”
No mention of the 108,000 drug deaths (CDC figures for 12 months alone) caused by Biden’s partnership with the Mexican drug cartels and his invitation which, so far, has brought almost five million illegal aliens across our southern border. Indeed, the words “migrants,” “immigration,” “illegal drugs” and “fentanyl” were not mentioned.
BIZARRE
Perhaps the strangest part of this “60 Minutes” interview was the fact that part of it was taped at the Electric Vehicle Show in Detroit, BUT PELLEY ASKED NO QUESTIONS about the electric vehicle industry, nor about where the electricity and battery parts would come from, nor about the high prices of EVs, nor about the electric grid to support 100 Million EVs on the road. A thousand questions he didn’t ask.
AND WHAT ABOUT HUNTER?
Pelley is the only one who made “news.” According to him, “Hunter Biden’s former addiction to crack cocaine led to a life he describes as nonstop depravity.” FORMER addiction? Hunter is cured of his 30 plus years of drug addiction? It’s a miracle!!! Pelley continued: “He has also acknowledged a federal investigation into his taxes.” “A Republican investigation found no wrongdoing” regarding Joe and Hunter’s receipt of millions of dollars from Ukrainian oil interests, according to Pelley. Say what? I don’t recall an investigation.
SPEWING MORE LIES
LIE: Biden told Pelley that he knew NOTHING about the FBI’s raid in advance.
FACT: In April Biden approved the process that lead directly to the August raid on President Trump’s home. He could have stopped it at any point, but chose not to.
DEMENTIA
Pelley mentioned that Biden would soon be celebrating his 80th birthday, but asked no tough questions about his obvious mental decline. Dementia was not mentioned. “You are the oldest president ever,” Pelley said. Biden’s answered “pretty good shape, huh?”
CHINA-TAIWAN
Trying to act tough with his buddy President Xi of China, Biden completely muddled America’s official position with regard to Taiwan and China. Between the Thursday interview and Sunday’s airing, the White House walked back his remarks. Biden first says he agrees with the “one China” policy, which means China can invade Taiwan whenever it wants. THEN, he says that “US forces would defend the island.” This part of his remarks begin at the 10 minute mark. This writer will let the viewer make heads or tails of it.
CBS news is like tits on a bull.
This is the reason why I and my other friends do not watch ABC, NBC or CBS. As Jack Webb said, " Just the facts." Maybe sometime they will realize we the public are not idiots.
