Did you catch Alejandro “the border is secure” Mayorkas’s press conference in North Carolina today, TWO WEEKS AFTER HURRICANE HELENE turned over two million hard-working, law-abiding, taxpaying Americans into shell-shocked survivors? That man is amazing! I have never before seen a person able to hold his nose in the air, all the while looking down at notecards full of bureaucrat double speak.
In the meantime, President Trump is housing, for free, 275 Florida Power & Light linemen in his Trump National Doral in Miami. "You are amazing and the Trump Family, and entire state of Florida, appreciates you! Enjoy the rooms - they are the best in Florida! Be safe," son Eric Trump said as he greeted them.
Located about 20 minutes from Miami, Trump National Doral is a luxury hotel with 643 total guest rooms, 14 deluxe suites, 27 premier suites, 2 presidential suites, and 48 spa suites. The hotel is also famous for its golf course, known as The Blue Monster.
DADDY WAS A LINEMAN
I have a special place in my heart for utility linemen because my father supported a family of five as a lineman for Douglas County PUD^ for thirty years. So good was he at his job that he was taken off the linemen crew and promoted to troubleshooter early on in his career. A troubleshooter is the lone lineman who would be called anytime, day or night, to go fix an electrical outage, however large or small. He took care of the entire county, which was 1,849 square miles. I remember my grandmother complaining one Christmas dinner because he was called out during a snowstorm. On the other side of the county, power lines were down and homes had lost power.
Linemen climb the utility poles using spikes attached to leather straps which are wrapped around each leg just below the knees. Another leather strap loops around the pole which is hooked to the man’s belt. Climbing to the top of the pole is slow going and hard on the knees. My father retired at age 49 because his knees were ruined and he needed knee replacements.
Thank you for sharing your dad with us. I love the breadcrumbs you drop in your writing that refer to him. He was a man’s man and that is a rare thing to see now of days. I thought it might be appropriate to share Glenn Campbell’s Wichita Lineman. A little sideline…I think the secret service working at Butler PA could have learned a lot from listening to this song. Too bad they didn’t grow up with a father like yours! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4qoymGCDYzU
