Activist Prosecutors Turn Police Into Defendants

Democrats’ love of violence reached new levels when they came up with the idea that police are all racists, hunting down black men like a hunter hunts down a deer. Of course, the stats prove quite the opposite. If a white police officer who, in his effort to protect others, happens to kill a black man, the “social justice” prosecutor will arrest and try him. A black officer killing a white man is ignored. The goal of the Defund Police Movement is not to keep the streets safer, but to terrorize police officers and to turn the streets over to violent thugs.

I cannot pinpoint exactly when the pro-violence, pro-criminal Defund the Police Movement began. I do know the public first heard about it during the Obama years and that President Obama promoted it. That said, police officers throughout America have become increasingly terrified that, by trying to keep their communities safe, they would find themselves defendants in criminal court. Another Soros-funded, anti-law & order prosecutor is trying to put Las Cruces, New Mexico Police Officer Brad Lunsford in prison for eleven years because he did the job he was paid to do, and saved the life of another police officer.

THAT FATEFUL NIGHT

Officer Lunsford’s nightmare started August 2, 2022 when he responded to a shoplifting call at a Chevron gas station parking lot in Las Cruces. When he arrived on the scene, right away he sensed something was off. The suspect refused to identify himself. When his partner saw a knife sitting on the suspect's lap, hidden under a water bottle, the officers moved to detain him.  Instead of complying, the suspect got violent. Everything that happened next happened in an instant.  

As the two officers tried to subdue him, the suspect went for Lunsford’s partner's gun, trying to pull it from the holster. Then he lunged for his taser, yanked it free, and pointed it directly at him. In that moment, Lunsford had no choice. It was the suspect's life or his partner's. He drew his pistol and fired, killing the suspect and saving his partner's life.  

A routine Internal Investigation and the local District Attorney both cleared this hero of any wrongdoing. More than a year later, the Attorney General of New Mexico charged Officer Lunsford with Voluntary Manslaughter! AG Raúl Torrez is not an authentic attorney general. Funded by George Soros, he is a rabid far-Left activist who hates the police. Because Lunsford is white, and the suspect was black, this radical prosecutor is determined to make a name for himself by destroying Lunsford and terrorizing all police officers.

We all know, had Lunsford been black and the thug been white, there would be no prosecution. Torrez even held a press conference and turned the microphone over to the suspect's family so they could spread hateful lies about Officer Lunsford, smearing him as a "racist" and a "cold-blooded killer." As a retired attorney, I know such a display violates professional ethics for attorneys general. These charges are a slap in the face to every brave man and woman who has ever put on the badge.  

TRIAL STARTS IN FEBRUARY

Brad Lunsford is a proud US Army veteran who served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Cavalry Scout. He almost died during one deployment when the Humvee he was driving hit an IED. He is also a decorated, 9-year veteran of the Las Cruces Police Department.  

The Las Cruces Police Department has continued to stand by Lunsford throughout this persecution.

The trial starts in February and the legal bills have become overwhelming for Lunsford’s family. Jason Johnson, a retired police officer, and President of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) contacted Lunsford. Not only did LELDF decide to help Lunsford get the legal defense he deserves, they're also raising money to pay for the best lawyers and expert witnesses available.
