Is every anti-humanity idea hatched in Oregon? Twenty-six years ago (1997) Oregon’s ghouls gave doctors legal permission to kill off their patients when it became the first state to pass a “doctor-assisted suicide” law. This law was limited to Oregon RESIDENTS. Not now!
The State of Oregon has opened up eligibility to any patient who reaches its borders. According to the Oregon Health Authority, the state stopped enforcing the residency requirement a year ago, in March 2022, pursuant to a lawsuit settlement agreement. Oregon has now become America's first “death tourism” destination, where terminally ill people from other states can travel to obtain a deadly cocktail of drugs to end their lives. In the liberal cesspool called Portland, at least one doctor has started receiving out-of-staters who have less than six months to live and meet the other requirements* of Oregon's Death with Dignity (DWD) law.
MOVING TOWARD THE CONCEPT OF “COMPLETED LIFE”
As you are reading this ask yourself: When will the CHOICE to die become the DUTY to die? And when will the government, who has taken and continues to take, so many choices away from us make that choice FOR you? They have already set up the process. Dr. Ezekiel Emanual,** the architect of Obamacare, created the concept of “Completed Life.” When one reaches a certain age (our overlords have not yet set the age), one should refuse ALL medical care. That is, medical care will be denied to you.
This idea morphed into a non-governmental agency, an NGO that is no doubt funded by billionaires who hate humanity and have no intention of “completing” their own lives this way: CompletedLife.org is pushing the Completed Life Initiative to force YOU to deny yourself medical care.
In 2021 Compassion & Choices, Inc. sued on behalf of Dr. Nicholas Gideonse,*** a Portland family practice physician. A longtime supporter of medical aid-in-dying laws, Gideonse had been unable to write terminal prescriptions for patients who live to the north, just across the Columbia River in Washington State. Since Washington State has its own doctor-assisted suicide statute can one assume the good doctor is greedy for new business?
In 2022 the Oregon Health Authority settled the lawsuit and agreed to lift the residency rule, but the state's legislature has only begun considering the repeal this session through House Bill 2279. It is very likely to pass since both the House and the Senate are owned by Democrats, and the governor is a Democrat.
LEGAL GRAY ZONE: OREGON LEGISLATURE HAS NOT YET CODIFIED THIS REGULATORY ACTION
Dr. Gideonse and any doctor who prescribes poison for dying out-of-staters is currently operating in a legal gray zone: The State of Oregon agreed to violate the Death With Dignity statute by allowing out-of-staters to go to Oregon and utilize it. However, the legislature has not yet codified this into law.
America's first “death tourism” destination creates tough legal questions for family members who help a loved one reach Oregon from a state that doesn’t have such a statute. They could face arrest or even be prosecuted in their home state as a result.
Matt Vallière, executive director of the Patients Rights Action Fund, a campaign group, said “You end up in this Wild West scenario where people take the drugs back to their home states, and there are a lot more questions than there are answers about what would happen after that.”
Apparently, Dr. Gideonse has already begun advising non-residents, including those living in states that prohibit suicide assistance, according to his comments as a panelist at The Completed Life Initiative’s recent conference. It is not known if any patients from other states have died utilizing the Oregon’s Death With Dignity statute.
When will the CHOICE to die become the DUTY to die? And when will the government, who has taken and continues to take, so many choices away from us make that choice FOR YOU?
