Living Behind Enemy Lines, Tale #12: Diane Needs YOUR Tales
My dear readers, a little over a year ago, I wrote my first “Living Behind Enemy Lines” article, a short, light-hearted tale about one of my experiences living in a Blue burb of a Blue City in a Blue State for way too long. I then turned to a brilliant woman who had left Portland, selling her house at a loss because it was in a BLM riot zone, and moving her family to Tennessee to get her kids away from the hate. She provided me with two tales, No. 2 and No. 6 below. Then I turned to other acquaintances, one of whom is a fellow Substack writer who lives in and suffered through Tim Walz’s BLM riot and tyrannical Covid lockdown. See No. 4 below. Tale No. 3 below is from a man who attended Trump’s rally in DC on January 6, 2021. Tale No. 7 below came from another (Liberal) Minneapolis reader.
I NEED YOUR TALE ABOUT LIVING BEHIND ENEMY LINES
Now, I have almost run out of friends, relatives and acquaintances who are willing to write a tale for me. Also, most of these Americans live or previously lived in Blue Oregon or Blue Washington, and I want to hear from Americans who live elsewhere. For example, I know California residents have many such stories. So do those who live in every Blue State in the country. Those who live in Blue cities in Red States no doubt have also been abused by Liberals, woke BS, DEI in the workplace, and various other woke insanity.
My subscribers love my "Living Behind Enemy Lines" articles. I need more! Could you provide me with an experience or two you have had? I will not use your name. It can be a short story about one aspect of living in a Blue area, or a longer essay. It could be a story about an abuse you have suffered because you are a Trump supporter, or because you are Conservative, or because you are a Christian, . . . . DID “KAREN” THREATEN ME?
Conservatives, Republicans and Trump supporters, living in either Blue areas or Purple areas have a constant dilemma: When a stranger or casual acquaintance is a little rude or down right nasty, one never knows if it is because he/she is having a bad day, or if you are being singled out for bad treatment because of your “political identity.” As a newcomer in our new (Purple) community on the Washington Coast, some (new) casual acquaintances assumed I was conservative merely because I wore a mask as little as possible and because I refused to disclose my “Covid Jab status” to a roomful of near strangers. Ha!!!! I wrote about this bizarre exchange with a Karen.
In early August I was walking my 13-year-old, deaf Boston Terrier, Misty, on Willapa Bay, WA, this Purple Area in a Dark Blue State, when I spotted a woman who was barely controlling her two huge malamutes on leashes. She was screaming that my dog was not on a leash. She added that her two dogs were dangerous. I told her my dog was old & deaf and would not bite hers. I also told her there was no leash law in our county, and that we had walked on the bay many, many times without incident. To get away from her & dogs, Misty and I turned to walk north and I thought she headed south.
About a block and a half later, we arrived at my car, and I turned to find that she and her “dangerous” dogs stood just steps behind us. She started screaming again, something about calling the sheriff, leashes, she had a neighbor with a bad dog, blah, blah, blah. She wasn’t making any sense, just kept repeating herself. As I put Misty in the passenger seat and walked around to get into the driver’s side, I called her a “Karen.” “I am not a Karen,” she screamed, followed by more blather. A block further north a lady apparently heard the shouting from inside the seafood store and came out to see what was going on. She was still standing there as I drove by. The lady with the dogs was still screaming.
To be clear, I am a lifelong dog lover. I was not afraid of her dogs because they were not growling or barking, and they showed no interest in my little dog. This crazy lady obviously saw the large Trump mugshot on the back of my hoodie as she was following me. Here is my question: Was she treating me this way because I am a Trump supporter, or would she have behaved like a jackass, regardless? Did she claim her dogs were dangerous in order to scare me? They did not act dangerous. I have been pondering the meaning of this encounter ever since. Getting along with Liberals in 2024 America is not easy.
